Career:
Maria Pia Sormani started her studies with a Bachelor’s in Physics at the University of Genoa, followed by a Master’s Degree in Biophysics at the University of Pisa and in Biostatistics at the University of Milan. Since 2014 she is Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Genoa, Italy, in the Medicine faculty, where she teaches statistics to medicine students. Maria Pia has accumulated and extensive knowledge of Biostatistics and methodology in clinical settings of MS.
During her career, her studies at the S. Raffaele Hospital in Milan contributed to shed light on methodological issues related to MRI in MS. In addition to her expertise in MS, Maria Pia worked in cancer clinical studies at the National Institute for Cancer Research in Genoa, Italy.
Maria Pia is a member of the MS Society Clinical Trials Advisory Committee and she is a visiting professor at the Imperial College of London, UK.
Over the course of her career, Maria Pia supervised undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. She published more than 400 papers on peer reviewed journals, and she is part of the editorial Board of the Multiple Sclerosis Journal.
